Phenomonal Effort
BARDON’S END2END CHALLENGE ENDS IN SUCCESS.
On 17th April a team of 6 cyclists set off on the 874 mile “Lands End to John O’Groats” challenge to raise money for The Steve Prescott Foundation in association with Engage Mutual. The group, made up of Bardon Concrete employees Jeff Stobbart, Gary Brennand, Steve White and Adam Wilcox along with ex BARLA captain Richard Owen and Richard Blowman, a legend of Steve Prescott Foundation challenges, successfully completed the challenge over ten very tough, yet rewarding days.

Setting off from Lands End, the team immediately faced what would prove to be a constant foe, a strong headwind which served to make each day even tougher. During the challenge the team would climb the equivalent of Mt Everest twice; however it felt as if the majority of this was in the first three days as they cycled through picturesque and very hilly Cornwall, enjoying glorious sunshine and incredible scenery along the way. The relatively flat conditions found from South Wales to Carnforth were well received as the team managed to up their pace and cover the ground at break neck speed, despite the wind! Following a mammoth 110 mile day of cycling from Carnforth to Mossop the ride continued into Scotland, around Loch Lomond and onto the ski resort of Glencoe which provided yet more hills and a stunning backdrop to the group of yellow shirted cyclists, for whom the end was in sight. The ride through Inverness then onto the A9 up to John O’Groats brought a very welcome tail wind which help push the tired group to the end, where a welcoming committee of partners along with the group’s chief support, Hughie Denning, were waiting armed with much appreciated bottles of champagne!
Thanks to the incredible support of friends, family, colleague’s and sponsors the team raised over £11000 for The Steve Prescott Foundation, which supports both “The Christie” Hospital in Manchester, where Steve Prescott receives treatment for his condition and “Try Assist” which provides funding and support for people who have been seriously injured playing Rugby League.
