Touching Gesture raises £1000

Ray Shiel fought his last battle on Sunday 13th December 2009, he lost his last fight against Cancer.

Ray still boasts one of the most incredible amateur records having lost just six times in 360 contests.

During that incredible 12-year run, which began when he was nine years old in the vest of Lowe House ABC, he collected three Army Cadet titles, two NABC titles and a National Schoolboy championship.

He also represented England on 11 occasions and was captain for six of those before turning professional at the age of 19 in 1960.

He then turned professional and climbed climbed up to fourth in the domestic heavyweight rankings, just behind Henry Cooper, this was after an unbeaten run in his first 11 fights, seven of which were inside the distance.

He went the distance with Italian Cavicchi the European Champion narrowly losing out on points.

At the Funeral his family generously decided to accept donations instead of flowers to go to the Foundation.

This phenomonal gesture has raised a incredible £1000.

The Foundation would like to thank everyone who supported the Charity and the Shiel family through this sad time.

Ray was a Legend in St Helens and a great character who will be solely missed.

Ray Shiel JNR (Pictured) graciously accepted our invitation for him to join us at the recent Christies Hospital visit and he witnessed how vital the money is for the Christie Hospital.
