IT has built its reputation as a keen rugby pub and now The George will be hosting a week of 'red vee' nostalgia in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

The town centre pub is offering visitors the chance of making a donation to the charity, by simply buying a drink.

Between Monday, October 13 and Saturday, 18 The George will donate ten per cent of its takings.

And the three events will mark 'Steve Prescott Week'.

Tuesday will see ‘Classic Match Night’ which will see two famous clashes being screened, including Saints’ 1984 Lancashire Cup final triumph over Wigan at Central Park, which was legendary centre Mal Meninga’s first trophy win with Saints. Entry will cost £1

On Thursday there will be a pool night between SPF and George teams. Representing the SPF will be ambassadors Paul Sculthorpe, Tommy Martyn, Steve Hampson along with Neil Prescott & Martin Blondel.

Meanwhile, the Saturday will see the pub host a special night out including music from a DJ with potentially some members of the Saints squad also present on the night.

“This is for people who maybe can’t afford to go to a Steve Prescott Foundation dinner, who can get in for as little as a pound,” says Alan Turner, 43 husband of landlady Michelle.

“Considering we are such a big rugby pub it seemed appropriate that it will be for the foundation,” added Alan, 43.

Martin Blondel, general manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation added: "When Steve was first diagnosed Alan and Michelle supported Steve and the Steve Prescott fund.

"I am sure regular supporters of the SPF will pop in and join the festivities. It promises to be a fantastic week."
