SPF ambassador Jimmy Gittins signs up for Steve Prescott Foundation Three Peaks 2016 Million Pound Year Celebration Challenge

Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) ambassador Jimmy Gittins is taking part in the Three Peaks Million Pound Year celebration in June. Jimmy, a former Dewsbury and Wakefield Wildcats player had an injury playing rugby league for Sharlston ARLFC in 2002, resulting in him breaking his neck in two places and leaving him paralysed from the chest down. The initial prognosis was that Jimmy would never walk again and he would lose his independence. But, after nine months of undergoing intense physiotherapy, he regained partial movement in his arms and legs.

His sheer determination and resilience led to him embarking on a number of fundraising and awareness activities in aid of Steve Prescott Foundation and the Try Assist Benevolent Fund

Jimmy has taken part in the majority of SPF Events since its inception on 2007 including the Walk Against Cancer, the Carnegie Challenge, Lejog Extreme, a Red Devils parachute jump from 15,000 feet and recently the Journey of League's Extraordinary Gents raising  thousands of pounds in the process.

Jimmy is also a trustee to the nationally recognised State of Mind programme, travelling all over the country giving presentations on the importance of mental fitness.

Jimmy paid this really touching tribute to Steve Prescott. ‘I met a man as he was staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. He took time to show me direction in life when facing adversity! His selflessness in order to help others and his ability to always lead from the front will stay with me forever. He showed me most importantly the true meaning of NEVER GIVE UP! He didn’t! And he got his wish and proved everybody wrong, hence why he truly was 1 in a Million! Steve Prescott thank you.’

Martin Blondel of the SPF said. ‘"It is fair to say that no one has supported the SPF more than Jimmy Gittins. We have had some rollercoaster times on some great events. To watch Jimmy in action, taking on the craziest challenges with no fear will live with me forever.

‘The word inspiration does not do him justice. It is only fitting that Jimmy and his family will be joining us on the Three Peaks Celebration Challenge. At this moment in time we are not sure how Jimmy will tackle this event but it will be unique and he will complete."

Jimmy will join the Prescott family, SPF trustees, ambassadors and friends for the Three Peaks Challenge and Celebration weekend.
