Roger, 45, is a police officer and is married to Jo and has two boys aged 14 and 11. His passions are travelling and running.
The GNR is the world's leading half marathon which started in 1981. The course runs from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields. The event is covered live on BBC. Previous runners include Mo Farah and Paula Ratcliffe.

Roger commented. 'The last time I ran any similar distance to the Great North Run I was 20 years of age. I became involved with this run after being challenged by my cousin after I was barracking her about doing it. After enrolling I decided to put it to use by raising a bit of money for a charity.

Having lived next door to Steve when he was playing for Hull and getting to know him and his family I decided without hesitation that the Steve Prescott Foundation would be the charity I would choose as he has inspired me by what he did even after his illness took hold he still went the extra mile to help others.'

He is training most days and hopes to complete the run in approximately 2hrs.
