Prasonisi to Mandraki Extreme Challenge Walk 2017

On August 7th 2017 Ben Moorhouse (34) and Gaynor Thompson (36) will take on their final chapter and Extreme Challenge Walk on the beautiful island of Rhodes in Greece.

In 2015 Ben and Gaynor walked from Mandraki to Prasonisi during August in just 3 days. (70 miles) They were the first people to do the walk during the hottest time of summer and made history by been the first people to do the challenge walk and succeed.

Ben and Gaynor decided that they must take their walking to a new level and in August 2016 they  returned to Rhodes and walked the full east coast from Prasonisi to Mandraki in an incredible TWO days.

On August 7th 2017 they will take on an epic final chapter in Rhodes to continue Steve Prescott's memory and legacy.

They will attempt to walk the full east coast of Rhodes walking from Prasonisi to Mandraki in just ONE day - a total of 70 miles or 113km. They will leave Prasonisi at Midnight , walking through mountains and secluded areas in complete darkness which is a huge danger in itself. The humidity and temperature is still intense during the night. When the sun comes up and the temperature and humidity increases by the hour hitting the top of the thermometer they will continue their journey to Mandraki and will walk through areas such as Pefkos,Lindos, Afandou and Faliraki. They will make their way towards Rhodes Town and then reach the finish line of Mandraki Entrance at the harbour at an estimated time of 8PM ( 6pm UK time).

Out of the three years this will be the most dangerous extreme challenge walk and Ben and Gaynor need peoples support.

Like in previous years Ben and Gaynor are now in full training - taking on long distance training walks and going to the local Pure Gym in Halifax. They are on a strict no alcohol nutritional plan. Ben is aiming to go to Rhodes lightweight due to the intensity and endurance required.

Ben Moorhouse and Gaynor Thompson statement

" People may see this years extreme challenge walk as us going down the same old road ( excuse the pun ) but in 2015 we never thought we could do the walk in 3 days. In life you have to do what you have to do and this year we have to test ourselves to the highest level to continue Steve Prescott's memory and legacy. We must finish our Story for Steve .

There is not one other person who will ever do what we do in Rhodes and what we do is totally unique. This year is extremely dangerous.

We will do everything we can to complete this for Steve and to raise money and awareness of The Steve Prescott Foundation. We have promoted Rhodes for three years now through the walks and know of many people who have visited the island because of us.

We hope more people will continue to consider Rhodes as a future holiday destination.

In the last two years we have raised over £4500 for The Steve Prescott Foundation and we know its going to be tough in our third year to raise money again - we ask family , friends and the public to please see the magnitude of the test that is infront of us and please dig deep for us.

Our message to the people in Rhodes is this year please be there for us and please support us. Please put yourself in our shoes and think about what a little bit if support would do for you if you were in our shoes. We do not ask you for money - just to please provide us with motivation and some positive energy along the way and maybe some cold water and food. It would make our day if some of you could support us just as human beings and individuals doing something good to help others. It can be a very lonely place when you are in pain and hitting hurdle after hurdle so your support would mean the world too us.

We also thank all our sponsors who have come onboard so far this year. We also thank the Alistair & Jonathan Brownlee, Matej Toth and Helen Skelton for your support on our December launch video. Also thank you to Louise Woodward-Styles for your support with our media.
